Your Friends Can Still Call You Pinko Commie Scum - Sing Along With The KumQuats’ 30th-Anniversary Release of "The Communist Song."
Punk satirists The KumQuats are marking their 30th anniversary by bringing back "The Communist Song," out Friday, July 4, 2026 as a co-release from Dyffryn Records and Birdsville Church Records. "What better way to celebrate our great nation's 250th birthday than to bring back 'The Communist Song'?" says band member Dansped.
Written in 1995 and first released in 1996, the song deadpans its way through olive-drab clothing, government-made vodka, and teaching the manifesto "to all the kiddies in the school yard."
There is currently no reunion tour planned, but the band confirms it is considering playing its longest-running residency. "Sir, there's no place classier than a Denny's!" says guitarist Jaicey West.
The single leads the band's four-song 30th-anniversary EP, The Royal Holy Order of the Golden Kumquat: lofi '90s punk dragged out of a 1996 basement, tape hiss and all. They were lofi before it was cool, mostly because they had no money.
When asked about the excitement surrounding the band's reunion, Skip replied, "I lost my train of...," and Shannon "Yoko Love" Hernandez simply replied, "I have a life. I can't hang out all night in Denny's."
The official release date is July 4, 2026, at 12:01am. "The Communist Song" will be available on all streaming services, with the official music video premiering the same day on the Birdsville Church Records YouTube channel.

THE KUMQUATS
The KumQuats are a Toms River, New Jersey punk band, formed after high school by a handful of friends who spent more time drinking coffee at Denny's than rehearsing. Their sound lands somewhere between the Dead Milkmen and NOFX: '90s nostalgia, low fidelity, and a Gen X cynicism aimed squarely at a generation raised on advertising.
The band traces its origin to The Royal Holy Order of the Golden Kumquat, built on the revelation that Prince Siddhartha reached enlightenment not under a fig tree but a kumquat tree. The KumQuats are its musical wing, a band in pursuit of truth and enlightenment through music. Thirty years later, they've come back older, remastered, and no wiser.
The KumQuats are Skip, Jaicey West, Shannon "Yoko Love" Hernandez, and Dansped.
